A Message for Tommy
Tommy,
I met you about 5 years ago when you taught a couple of .NET classes that I attended in Atlanta. I only saw you for a few days, but you impressed me as such a genuinely nice person; in addition to being so very competent in your chosen profession. Because of your explanation of what Three Will stood for, I was very interested in what you were doing. I followed your company for a while and then lost touch, as we often do.
I was on the MS Groove 2007 Forums and saw a link to your blogs regarding the use of Groove. I went to check it out and there I discovered what you and your family have been going through over the last six months. I only wish I had come across this earlier so that I could have offered up prayers for you and your family as you went through this period of challenge and growth in your lives.
As Nicole C. Mullen so aptly put it…I know my Redeemer Lives…Because I spoke with him this morning.
…and my prayer will be that God redeems the time spent in this treatment in ways that only HE can and that your family will be closer and stronger for it.
I will continue to track your progress. It is very apparent that you have a strong support network, but if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Hello Tommy !
Just read your post and glad things are gradually
working back to normal. I’m very proud of you and
look forward to our next StarBuck’s coffee !
God bless you and your entire family,

Looking Good!
Hi- School is out, so that means I have more time to surf the net! A less stringent schedule…more time to goof off and take what life brings us! We pray for you each night and the boys wanted an update on how you were doing. I guess the best news is that you are a SURVIVOR and can spend some great times at MD Anderson with your new friends. I’m sure you’ll never know how many lives you touched because inspiring one person is enough. I admire your courage and faithfulness.
Today, June 5, is our second anniversary of moving to Carmel. I yearn for the hot, Southern nights, dear friends, and mountain ranges, but until I can persuade Chuck to be a professor at Clemson:), I’ll just have to appreciate the IN sunsets and less congested lifestyle of Carmel.
Give our love to Linda and the kids. Keep up the blog as we are all interested in the continued success of your treatment.
Just found out that Midland, MI has a minor league baseball team with some over-the-top stadium! We’ll email you a photo of your old stomping grounds if we make it there!

YEH!
Hi- Just checking in and saw the awesome news! Truly miraculous! I have passed your blog onto a family in South Bend who is going on his third occurrence on non-Hodgkins. His sister is going to be the stem cell donor. I’m hoping your blog will offer them some insight and hope.
Did not enjoy the Clemson game, but had a Hansen 3-victory in the house, Carl, Evan, and Jack. It was the first win for Carl-long awaited and well-deserved.
Chuck is avidly job hunting….we’ll let you know what changes….I haven’t even stripped all the wall paper yet!
We hope all is well. I think Alex is in High school now? Say hi to everyone and GO COLTS!

Remember the Alamo
Whenever you want extra dessert in a TX hospital, whisper to the hospital employee, “Remember the Alamo” and they will super size your meal…jk. Tom – I look forward to seeing you soon. Let me know if I can bring anything from home to may your stay more comfortable. You continue to amaze us with your strength!
Love, BR
More Texas advice… Your attitude is amazing Tommy and I am grateful to God for how your doing. I will say extra prayers that stem cell infusion goes well.
On a lighter note, in addition to “Remember the Alamo” is
“Dame otro Tequila” == “Give me another Tequila”
“agarrar al toro por los cuernos”== ”to grab the bull by the horns”

V for VICTORY!
Hi Tommy,
We did our training FOR YOU today – Danny and Amy did 20 miles and report that it went well. Then they went to your parents’ home to pick up Kailey and SHE did well overnight with her grandparents.
I did 10 miles and am now is “double digits”, came home to an Epsom Salts bath, napped and here I am – fine.
As I read your blog, I visualized a V for Victory. You hit bottom this week and are now of the upswing!
You’re getting better now and soon will be to the next milestone. What a good job you’ve been doing!
Tomorrow Linda and Alex arrive – that’ll give you energy!
Thoughts and prayers,

You are winning again
Tommy,
I’m both humbled and inspired to witness in your daily journey an overwhelming motivation to overcome the very present adversity of cancer. Your family also exhibits such strength and courage as their love rallies you back to good health! Continue looking up as it is already quite evident that God has favored you to be sharpened like iron with iron and purified as gold is with fire. You are winning and God is using you to bless many now and even more in the future.
Our family’s prayers for you and yours,

Psalm 62
Hi Tommy,
Just read your blog and was so inspired by your faith and courage. Psalm 62 came to mind. Just wanted to share it with you as you start your day.
The Palazzo family continues to remember you and your entire family in prayer. Our small faith group is praying for you as well as intentions that continue to be offered in our church’s Eucharistic Adoration chapel.
Psalm 62
For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
May God’s peace which is beyond all telling and imagining be with you and Linda today!

I am so sorry to hear about the difficult struggle you’re going through, but please know so many people are praying for you. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that while suffering is painful and scary, it can also bring you closer to God and your loved ones– as well as make you appreciate all the blessings you do have. You are in our prayers
Tommy,
Thanks to Danny for sending me the link to your blog. Please know that you and your family are in the prayers of your friends at Boys & Girls Clubs of America. There are many questions we will have for God when we are finally with Him. Why we go through things like this will certainly be on my list of questions. But until then, our assurance will continue to be the words of Hebrews 13:5b …”I will never leave you nor forsake you”. Keep the faith.

Hello from NY

You are in our prayers morning and night. Rudy says that you are very handsome with your new haircut, because you look like daddy now. I wish we were closer but we are just a plane ride away. Hugs and kisses to Linda and the kids! Thank you for keeping us up to speed with your journey. YOU ARE AMAZING!

Waves of prayer and love
Tommy, Linda et al – As the New Year unfolds, you are still, continually, on my mind and in my prayers. You need to know that our parish’s present RCIA group (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) has taken you on as a special prayer project. Each Monday at the end of the session, they say a special prayer and mention you. They are also asking the intercession of the saints, and hoping that Fr. Isaac Hecker, the founder of the Paulist Fathers, whose cause for sainthood is just getting started, will be part of this great communion of prayer, along with all of us here. May the God of all love surround you with the peace of Christ Jesus!

You are a wonderful witness
Just a quick message – to let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Tommy, in your blog, your words of praise for the Lord during these difficult times are moving and inspiring. I would venture to guess God finds our praise of Him during the trying times more precious than in the good times. How proud God was of his servant Job. You are a wonderful witness to us all. “The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. Proverbs 10:21″
For some reason today I felt moved to share my favorite Bible verse with you – one I have treasured from childhood. I have always found comfort in the knowledge that I am the one that He left the 99 to find, and that He watches over me with an amazing Love. And that no matter what dark valley I walk down, He is with me and guiding me.
Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Yours,
Alan, Kerry, Shannon, Trey, and Drew
Another message from Danny and Amy’s Team
Hi Tommy-
Like Angela, I am a teammate of Danny and Amy on the Northside Team in Training. Danny did a great job telling us your story last Saturday, and I really found your blog inspiring.
I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2004, but they were able to get it all through surgery, and I didn’t have to undergo chemo or radiation. I was incredibly lucky.
Best of luck on your treatment, and I hope you get back to your family in Atlanta soon. I hope that the small stuff we are doing at TNT can make a dent in curing this disease. Please know that you will be in our family’s prayers. Take care.

Message from Father Joe
Tommy, Linda – You need to know that a young woman from my Parish in Knoxville has also just been diagnosed with Hodgkins. Dana Karnowski is 35 yrs of age, married to Tom, and they have three young children, including a set of twin boys! Dana has worked in our parish office and has been an incredible blessing to us as one of our wedding coordinators. This news of the lymphoma is overwhelming to her and her family.
I wanted you to know that we prayed for Dana at our 10 am Sunday Mass today. We brought up her family and others for the laying on of hands, as part of the Church’s Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. As she came forward, I shared your own story and when we prayed with Dana, I asked her to hold the photograph of you and your family, so that we could also pray for you. It was a touching and grace-filled moment during our Sunday Eucharist.
My prayers continue for you, and now for Dana, who begins this journey of faith as well. Our RCIA group continues to end their sessions each Monday with a prayer for you, while seeking the intercession of Fr. Isaac Thomas Hecker, the founder of the Paulist Fathers.
Hugs for you and yours…

Tommy,
Our church has been praying for you as have several prayer groups here in Mississippi. Reading the messages on your blog it looks like you and your family are absolutely covered up with angels standing guard over ya’ll. I am going to add Fr. Issac, the founder of the Paulists to my prayer warrior list too. I have always been a big fan of Paulists and their ministry. Getting you well while helping him move closer to sainthood sounds like a good plan to me. When you are driving home, remember we are right off I-20, just north of Jackson, MS if you and your Dad need a rest stop. I will get the guest room ready just in case. Your mom has our phone number. Subject: John Madden – Hotline to God
John Madden was in San Diego to announce a football game one weekend when
he noticed a special telephone near the Charger bench. He asked Rivers what
it was used for and was told it was a hotline to God. John asked if he could
use it. Rivers replied, “Sure, but it will cost you $200.” John scratched his head,
then thought, what the heck, I could use some help picking games. He pulled out
his wallet and paid $200. John’s picks were perfect that week.
The next week John was in New England when he noticed that same kind of
phone on the Patriots bench. He asked what the telephone was for and Tom
Brady told him, “It’s a hotline to God. If you want to use it, it will
cost you $500.”Recalling last week, John pulled out his wallet and made the
call. John’s picks were perfect again that week.
The next weekend John was in Indianapolis when he noticed the same kind of
telephone by the Colts bench. He asked Peyton Manning , “Is that the hotline
to God?” Peyton said, “Yes, and if you want to use it, it will cost you 35 cents.”
John looked incredulously at Manning and said, “Wait a second, I just paid $200
in San Diego and $500 in New England to use the same phone to God! Why
do the Colts only charge 35 cents?” Peyton looked at John and replied,
“Because in Indianapolis , it’s a local call.”
Congratulations, COLTS !
Love,

Hi Tommy – It’s cousin Colleen from PA
Dear Tommy,
I’m sorry you have to endure more harsh treatments, but I wanted to let you know that there is definite hope for this treatment. My husband Warren’s oldest brother, Paul, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma 4 years ago. He underwent the stem cell transplant 3 years ago and has been clean since. Like you, when Warren and his other siblings got tested for compatability with Paul, none of them matched up well Paul, but two of them were a perfect match for each other.
Know that you and your family will be in our prayers for a successful treatment and fast recovery.
Love, Colleen & Warren Grossenbacher

Sorry to hear about your HD coming back Tommy, we want you guys
to know that you’re in our thoughts & prayers each day. At our CSA
reunion this past summer we all talked about where life has taken us
since Clemson, …guess this is another chapter, one that with God’s
comfort, strength, healing, and guidance you will all finish with flying
colors! The power of faith and prayer is an awesome one, we hope you
can feel & accept all that is being sent your way:o)
You & Linda have done an impressive & inspiring job in researching
your options! I think you can be assured that you have made a sound
decision in your treatment plan. You have both used the gifts God has
given you wisely, and I am sure you will continue to do so.
Take care and know that we’re pulling for ya’ll from Nebraska and beyond!!

Message
Tommy and Linda,
I leave tomorrow for Seattle and a couple of weeks with my brother and his family. I didn’t want to get too distracted with my own Christmas without letting you know I’ll be carrying you and your struggles with me and including them in my prayers and Masses at Christmas. This was a tough year for you, facing another round of serious illness. But you are handling it so competently and so optimistically. Those qualities seem to be serving you well. Add to them the grace of God, and you will come through this fine.
One of the real highlights of the past year for me was that time of reunion in Clemson. I’m so grateful you and your children were able to be there. As I read through the messages being sent to you, I see how genuine is the care for one another that is felt among our old CSA group. There is a deep and wonderful goodness that I could see in each of you. It was particularly inspiring to see how you are all working to pass that goodness and your faith on to your children. It gives me such great hope for the future and renews my sense of the importance of our work with college students.
May the promise of this season, the peace and joy of Christ, continue to fill your hearts as you move through the coming days. I send my blessings and prayers for your complete healing in the New Year.
With you in prayer, Fr. Steve Bossi, CSP

Tommy, Linda, and family,
Rob and I are so sorry to hear of both the first episode and now this recurrence but are deeply encouraged to hear and read how you are a living witness of the bountiful gifts of our Sweet Holy Spirit. Continue to draw strength from God’s grace and seek Him for comfort, courage, and hope. Your faith is shining like a city on a hilltop!
Know that the Palazzo family is praying fervently for your complete recovery and that the entire community of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta is raising you up in prayer through the intentions in our 24/7 Eucharistic Adoration chapel. The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy from Charleston (where Lynn’s aunt is a Sister) are also praying for you.
May God’s choicest blessings be with you through your treatment.

Even more than thoughts….
Tommy and Linda,
This very week, for the first time since our little CSA reunion in June, I was back in Clemson on Monday to make a sales call. As I drove past the Student Center I was remembering our little speeches that Fr. Steve made each of us come up with that last night we were together, and I thought about how Tommy told us of the experience of 13 years ago. This evening (Friday) I just landed in Dallas/Fort Worth for a business meeting on Monday, and Gretchen told me over the phone of the current situation and that you are in Houston. My thoughts and more are with both of you.

I just got word from Kate McManus-Furukawa about the recurrence of the cancer. I had been thinking of you recently and remembering how you had gone through that difficult time after your marriage. Please know of my intense and fervent prayer support. May God surround you all with love and provide the direction of how to explore available therapies that may be options. We’re going to storm heaven for you! We cling to our faith, which is our hope in the God who saves us, restores us, and fills us with inner joy!

You’re in Our Prayers
Hi- This morning, before I checked my email, I was thinking about our pending post-Christmas trip to GA and I thought, “I need to make sure to get in touch with the Ryans”…..maybe we will have to reroute to Houston! My prayers are with all of you as I can’t imagine the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that all of you are feeling. I am sponsoring an RCIA candidate and in class today our priest discussed how the rosary is a beautiful way to say something when your don’t know what to say. I will be praying my rosary everyday for you all. Please let me know if there is anything we can do from IN.

Tommy, our family is praying hard for you and your family. I believe God will be pouring His grace and His peace on you and your family as you progress through this journey. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Blessings,

Prayer group
Hey Tommy, read your latest and hope all continues to go well and God speaks clearly and with wisdom to you and to the doctors. Just a brief note that at least 20 men from my group in our church are praying for you. Take care and get well.
And while I admit I often do not have the wisdom to see His greater plan I cling to this verse:
Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Bone marrow donor wannabe
Tommy, Linda, Alex, Madeline, and Austin
Man, this news is hard to hear. We got the message from Katie Furukawa
earlier this week.
At the CSA reunion this summer, you were telling us about the HD from so
long ago and how at peace you were with whatever God decides for you.
I was strengthened in my faith to see the strength of yours.
Of course you, Linda and the kids are in our prayers. We are praying
strong prayers for you!
I know the future weeks are going to be very challenging, but you are up
to the task, Tommy. You have so many folks rooting you on.
Hey, Tommy, I hope they call me to donate bone marrow for you! I’ve been
on the NBMD list for about 15 years now.
Let the kids know that Becky’s praying for them too, will you? And she
said good luck to them in their Science Olympiad events. She’ll be doing
SO again this year.
We’ll be praying for a donor with a perfect match to be found quickly.

Friend of Tim Coalson
Hi Tommy,
I go to church with Tim Coalson. I too have Hodgkin’s! I was diagnosed in early October and have started ABVD treatment, which I think you did some years ago! Your WEB page was very informative, especially since I have Hodgkin’s! You are and will continue to be in my prayers.

Hi Tommy,
I have come to know about you through Joanne Melear and I believe Joanne is a subscriber to my own newsletter called Achieve Your Goals.
At this time Tommy it is more important than ever to keep focused on what you want to experience, and become connected to what it feels like to be completely faithful, joyful, loving and vibrant.
with warmth,

Praying for you
Tommy,
Just want you to know that there is another voice in the chorus of prayers reaching out for you. Keep up the fight by battling with information. From reading your entries, you and Linda are doing an incredible job of it! And in the end, I’m thankful God gave you peace with your current decision for treatment.
I’m glad you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving and reconnect with Linda’s family. I drive through Orangeburg every other weekend on the way to Charleston where my fiancee lives! I don’t think I’ve told you all that I am recently engaged. The wedding will be March 17th in Charleston – then Natalie will move to Atlanta. I’m hoping you’ll be done with your AutoSCT by then!!
God bless,
Jason Jones
Hi
Hi Tommy -
I am a friend of your sister in law, Amy and have been reading your Blog. I have been in remission from HD for almost 4 years now so your story hits pretty close to home for me. I just wanted to offer my support as well as let you know about a fabulous resource I found during my battle. It’s a Hodgkin’s Disease email list serv. If you’re interested, you can subscribe at www.hodgkinsdisease.org. I found it to be truly invaluable……….getting information from people who are going through the same thing is sometimes more valuable than the information you get from doctors. I second the nod to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the staff was absolutely amazing and I now have a great friend working there.
Good luck to you and I’ll be thinking of you!

A Successful Journey
Hi Tommy and Family,
Aunt Paula and I and all of our family have you in our prayers and know that your fight will be successful!
As you know we are old hands at fighting different forms of cancer and we respect what a resourceful enemy we are all fighting.
We’ve just returned from Willcox, AZ, helping Paula’s brother, Greg, prepare for bladder cancer treatment; he faces additional surgery within a month and will most likely loose his bladder and prostate gland. Greg is a trooper and is anxious to have the surgery over with so that he may get back to his Arizona fish farm.
I’ve just received your Blog and am fully supportive of the treatment choices you and Linda have made.
M.D. Anderson Hospital sounds like quite the place, and the staff is showing the confidence necesary to beat this disease out of your system once and for all.
Keep in touch, your Dad and Mom let us know of your progress and how well the three younsters are doing at home.
Love,
Aunt Paula and Uncle Phil
good luck Tommy from your northern cousins
Hi Tommy,
Got your blog from your Dad. I’m sorry you have this ahead of you but encouraged the
way you are taking it on. One day at a time. You are in my thoughts and prayers, my
whole office is pulling for you, and my circle of friends are praying for your strength during
treatment and return to your beautiful family. Anything we can do for you up here, you got it.
Brian and Jeanine and their families send best wishes and we will dedicate our Christmas
dinner blessing to you. Take it easy during the holidays and your upcoming adventure.
You have done and continue to do all the hard work for research and recovery. We fully
support you and send you a huge hug from Boston.
Lots of love,
Donna
Thanksgiving
As Thanksgiving approaches and I ponder the blessings poured out on me I think of you as you embark on your fight. It will be a tough journey but I have no question that you will move through it with the blessings and courage poured out by the Holy Spirit. Your Faith is an example to all who know you and a blessing to each of us who have the honor to have you as a mentor. You have a special place in my heart for which I will be thanking God this Thanksgiving Day. May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your family this holiday and all the days of your life.
Warmly,
Rob Bohm <

Kick Off of Team In Training!
Dear Tommy,
There ARE NO coincidences, so I think it is really neat that the Kick Off of Team in Training was the same day as the Kick Off of your Adventure in Houston! Our journey will coincide with yours. Our energy will become YOUR energy. Together, as a team, we will travel this journey together.
Thank you for keeping us posted, through this blog. It will become a treasure for your loving family, friends and employees.
I hope you and Linda had a wonderful Wednesday!

Tommy,
Please know that my family and I will pray for you and your sweet family through this time.
